Online teaching

The wide spread use and availability of the Internet is changing the way higher education is delivered. Many more options are now available to working adults than ever before. If you thought that you couldn’t go back to school to take classes to enhance your career or even change careers, think again. Gone are the days of commuting to a college campus and taking evening courses. Online continuing education courses are available and may be the solution you are looking for.

Colleges are beginning to offer more options for the working adult. Many Universities offer adult, evening, accelerated programs. Colleges and universities are beginning to understand that adults with families to support cannot simply stop working to go back to school. Correspondence courses have also been available in the past for the working adult who couldn’t attend classes on campus and needed an at home option. Those correspondence courses are now giving way to online courses. There are many online programs out there. There are offerings in education, health care and business. One can work towards a bachelor degree, master degree, or even a doctorate degree. Some universities are offering programs one hundred percent online. Others have hybrid programs where part of the course work is done online and part is done on campus. Those interested in continuing education online, will need to do some research to find the college and program that best meets their needs.

Universities such as the University of Phoenix and Walden University offer online education degrees. Those interested in pursing an online teaching degree can work towards a bachelor degree, master degree, or a doctorate in a specific field of education. Current teachers in need of credits for license renewal can also take single courses via the online format. Programs through the University of Phoenix can be taking online or at a one of their many campuses. Students are able to choose the classes that best fit their schedules. Classes begin weekly and run about five to six weeks. Classes are taken one at a time. All instructors with the University hold master degrees or doctorates and work in the field in which they instruct.

Regardless of which field one pursues, the university or college where the degree is granted from should be accredited. Accreditation means that a university or college has met certain standards determined by an accrediting association. Accreditation can be given to the institution as a whole or it can be given to a specific program. To ensure the course work one takes will be recognized make sure the institution or the program has been accredited.

Online education is becoming a hot field. As online institutions such as the University of Phoenix, Walden University and DeVry become more popular, there will be more opportunities for online teaching positions as well. Even public K-12 schools are beginning to offer virtual schools and online options for their students. The Internet is changing the way education is being delivered.

If you are a working adult and thought you could never go back to school, think again. The increasing popularity of online education is making more options available than ever before. Before singing up for an online program, though, do your research. Be sure to look for programs and institutions that are accredited. Then, go for it.
